Shape Attributes Game

Follow clues about sides, corners, and families.

Play now →

Shape Detective is a free geometry game for children ages 6–9. Children select every shape that fits a clue. Challenges build from counting sides to recognizing that a square is also a rectangle.

How to play

  1. Choose Count sides, Corners and angles, or Shape families. Read the clue before selecting.
  2. Tap every shape that matches. Tap a selected shape again to remove it.
  3. Check shapes. Feedback can point out an extra shape or tell you that more matching shapes remain.

A worked example

For a clue about four straight sides, count around each outline. A square and a rectangle both match; a triangle has three sides and a circle has a curved edge.

What to notice

Size, color, and rotation do not change a shape’s family. A square has four right angles and is also a rectangle. Select all matches rather than stopping after the first familiar shape.

A little help when it matters

Every game has a step-by-step “How to play” guide, optional spoken instructions, and hints that explain mistakes. Five challenges earn a medal saved on the device. There are no time limits or penalties for trying again.

Try this together

Turn a drawing of a square. Ask whether rotating it changes its sides or corners. It is still a square, even when it looks like a diamond.
