Equivalent Fractions Game

Different slices can make the same share.

Play now →

Pizza Picnic is a free fractions game for children ages 6–9. Select slices to show a share of one pizza. Start with equal parts, explore equivalent fractions, then work out what remains after some of the pizza has been eaten.

How to play

  1. Choose Equal shares, Equivalent shares, or What is left? Read whether the goal asks for a share or the amount remaining.
  2. Tap slices to select them; tap again to undo. Count equal pieces of this one pizza.
  3. Compare the selected amount with the requested fraction, then choose Check slices.

A worked example

If a pizza has four equal slices, select two to show one half. The selected share is 2/4, which covers the same amount as 1/2. If three of four slices are eaten, one of four remains.

What to notice

The bottom number describes equal parts of the whole, not just the selected slices. When the pizza has more small slices than the fraction’s denominator, one fraction part can contain several slices.

A little help when it matters

Every game has a step-by-step “How to play” guide, optional spoken instructions, and hints that explain mistakes. Five challenges earn a medal saved on the device. There are no time limits or penalties for trying again.

Try this together

Keep the size of the whole pizza fixed. Two of four equal slices and one of two equal slices cover the same amount: two quarters equal one half.
